An EKG (electrocardiogram) records your heart’s electrical activity. Small stickers on your chest pick up the signals that set your heartbeat. It’s quick and great for spotting rhythm problems.
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound. It shows your heart’s structure and movement: how well it pumps, how the valves work and how blood flows.
Think of it this way. An EKG tells you how the heart’s wiring is working. An echo shows you how the heart muscle and valves are working. Doctors often order both, because together they give a much fuller picture of heart health.
