Why Heart Scans Are Moving Out of the Hospital

For many older adults, the hardest part of a heart scan is getting there.

For a nursing home resident, a hospital visit can take a whole day. It means arranging transport, waiting in lobbies, missing meals and therapy, and coming back exhausted. For someone who is frail or has dementia, the trip itself can be a real burden.

Mobile echocardiography changes that. A registered sonographer brings a portable system to the bedside and performs the same diagnostic-quality study a hospital lab would. A cardiologist reads the images, and the report goes to the ordering provider.

The result is faster answers, fewer disruptions and less stress for patients and staff. When the scan comes to the patient, care stops waiting on logistics.
